Description

The name Eriobotrya derives from the Greek ‘erion’ meaning ‘wool’, referring to the dense hairs around the flowers, and ‘botrys’ meaning ‘a bunch of grapes’, referring to the flower clusters.

Originally from China, a drought tolerant tree.

Flowers

The scented, creamy-white, 5-petalled flowers grow in dense clusters.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oval to long, wider in the middle, loosely serrated, leathery, pointed with a pronounced midrib, ± 20 cm.

Fruits Seeds

Pome: a fleshy, oval-shaped, orange-yellow fruit with a large brown central seed.

Edible

Fruit: juicy and sweet when ripe, eaten raw or made into jams and jellies.
